[ Sometime after the chapel catches fire and the library is invaded by arsonists on a mission, Natsuno leaves. Between the blood puddle after trial and the clanging of bells from one member of the arsonist gang, he's in a mood. The trees outside aren't the best place to hang being poison oak and all, but with long sleeves and pants, he can deal with it for a while if he's careful.
And it's a nice perch to watch the chapel burn from, so. The view is pretty nostalgic and almost comforting if he doesn't let his mind wander too much to one certain person in particular—forgetting him hasn't gotten any easier. That's his frame of mind when he spots Anon on the ground and offers a half-hearted wave: instinct mostly, and memories of something and someone long dead. ]
Hey.
[ In the reflection of the night, his eyes are vibrant red. ]
[Welp. That sure is Natsuno up in a tree again, and his eyes are real noticeable even from a distance.
Anon comes drifting over after the whole excitement with the chapel and everything, the night lit up with whatever's still burning and what's left of the afterparty still groaning along on its last legs. It's debatable how many people are getting to sleep tonight, especially after all the enchanted sleep this week.
For his part, Anon seems perfectly relaxed, if a little smokey around the edges. He stops just below where Natsuno's holed himself up and peers up at him. He looks a little bemused.]
You know that tree's not good for you, right? [apparently he has enough sense to tell even at night!] What's up, anyway?
[He might be asking about his eyes, or just in general. It sure has been a long day.]
Yeah, I don't care. [ As if to emphasize his point, he leans back into the tree. His indifference is apparently aimed at himself however, given that there's no delay in his replies. ]
Tired, you? [ If the question's phrased that way, he's going to go with the easier answer. ]
[He blinks, and then gives a little laugh, settling himself carefully by the tree but not close enough for any stray leaves or anything to land on him. He may be a demon Infernal creature-thing but he's a sensible one, especially with everything all sealed up tighter than the Foundation's coffers.]
Do you always look more like that when you're tired? Come to think of it, for a long time I had that problem too!
[There's a bit of a silence as he stretches, cracking some joints and rolling stiff muscles.]
Mm, it's really been an interesting day, hasn't it? There was a lot of food, so I feel like I should go to sleep now, but I'm definitely too awake.
[ "Look like what?" He almost asks until he unconsciously runs his tongue over his teeth, feeling his fangs. Mm, he can't be bothered to will his appearance back to normal at the moment. ]
No, but I'm not usually tired. [ More mentally than physically, and it reflects in his voice and how generally passive he's being. ]
It was something, but neither witch got what they wanted. [ He shrugs, rustling some of the leaves. ] Eating makes me more awake, but I can't say I'm interested in it right now.
[He's totally watching. ☆ And brightens a little when Natsuno just kind of... totally ignores the fact that he's turned into the terror that flaps in the night. It's pretty great, actually, even if he sits in poison trees for fun.]
Oh, right. You don't usually sleep at all, right? A lot of things are real inconvenient here, but I just think of it as a kind of training for everything else.
[He doesn't bother specifying what everything else is. Just everything!]
There really isn't much eating going on right now, but everyone's got to be hungry after being stuck in the court... Hmm. [he sounds like he doesn't quite get it] But we won against Yuuko, didn't we? So one of the Witches got what they wanted for sure.
[ Reclining into the trunk of the tree more, he let's himself slide back until hes laying horizontally on the branch like it's an itchy leafy bed. He'll pay for this tomorrow, probably. ]
That's not while 'm hungry. [ Muttered, he moves on. ] Mhmm but the other one will probably be disappointed that we didn't serve justice or whatever.
Ah! You're nocturnal, and you have red eyes like me, and funny teeth... You're almost like a vampire or something!
[He shoots a faintly mischievous look at where his companion is just basically rolling himself around in poison leaves and then goes back to watching the fire.]
That's why you keep getting distracted by all the blood, huh? I still don't know what a jinrou is, but I think I'm starting to get an idea! [is this a good thing.....] And anyway, if the Witches wanted justice, they should have gotten more people who were good at justice! Instead of just talking about it. I'm just here to win.
[ Rolling over onto his side, he peers down at Anon. He stares for a few moments before making up his mind. ]
It's a type of vampire. Jinrou, I mean. [ It doesn't seem like there's a reason to hide it when Anon has guessed the right answer, and it helps that he's not human too. ]
I'm here for myself, which the birdbrain couldn't seem to understand.
[He seems surprised! But it's probably a really good idea to just tell him what's up instead of letting his ample imagination run away with everything. Who knows where that would lead.]
Ahaha, I didn't expect to guess right at all, but sometimes an apple really is just an apple. So what type of vampire is it? What kind of blood do you drink?
[ Laying back down now, he stares stubbornly ahead at the night sky. ]
Pick one question, or I'll pick for you. I never met anyone other than humans before the SCP. [ So maybe that means just human blood? But he's never tried to drink any other kind so... ]
I only care about myself.I don't care about anyone else's sense of justice, morality, or feelings. [ 2/3 questions ain't bad. ]
[He gives a little laugh, but doesn't seem put out.
It's all Natsuno's business, after all, and he is totally sticking his nose all the way into it.]
So, kind of a normal sort of vampire that way. Did the SCP have you try other kinds? How strong are you, anyway?
[It looks like he didn't quite learn his lesson about rapidfiring questions, but at least he's just keeping to two at a time instead of giving the guy the third degree. The chapel's got that covered.
Natsuno's conclusion at least gets a delighted grin.]
Ah! So you're just a normal guy in that way! I think that's a good way to do things -- everyone else is looking out for their own interests, so of course you're the only one who can look out for yours.
[ He groans—how did he find his way into another conversation where he's being dragged along and not putting up much resistance? His nostalgia has to be to blame. ]
No, they didn't. Jinrou are stronger when we drink blood, but we don't have to. [ More sighing from his canopy bed. Right now it means he's pretty weak. ]
Mhmm. Or pretending to look out for everyone else.
[Anon continues breezily as though he's not hearing the sighing and the groaning -- he'll assume that either Natsuno is being gently murdered by his friendly leaves, or that he's just being grouchy because he's hungry-tired.
Either way, it's his own fault.]
Hey, so do you think that was the SCP's way of containing you? It's such a drag when they won't let people use their powers properly. There's so much blood on this island, I'm sure you could have enough to get by!
[Anon is here for everyone to live up to their full potential??]
Mmm, there are always a lot of people like that, I think, because they're too weak on their own. So they have to all stick together. But it's still the same thing, in the end.
[ This is how Natsuno doesn't make it to week two, murdered by poison oak. ]
They're not stopping me from drinking blood and the witches aren't either. [ He doesn't have much to say to the other part because yeah he agrees, but more importantly his focus has kind of wandered again. He really should have went to the afterparty just to grab some food, even if it wouldn't really have done much. ]
'm not. [ But despite his protests to the contrary, he does sound drowsy. Jinrou aren't like other shiki where they have a forced sleep at dawn, but the hour is probably getting late (or early), and today's been a day. The good news is that being so sleepy means he can't be bothered to sidestep questions he normally would.]
Yeah. [ Some rustling as he makes himself more comfortable, resting his arms behind his head. Definitely going to pay for this tomorrow. ]
That's it, really. I could say they came into the village and started killing people left and right but—I just don't like them. I don't like humans either.
So jinrou would usually just kill people all the time, huh? Since they're a food source, or a source of power.
[He sounds vaguely thoughtful about it, as though they're discussing the next door neighbor's somewhat unruly Chihuahua. Granted, he would probably actually sound more excited if they were talking about a Chihuahua, but it's the principle of the analogy.
There's a brief chortle as he considers the rest.]
[ Unlike the silence before, his response here is immediate. Laughing, short but bitter, it seems like he might just roll off the tree branch. Then just as abruptly he stops. ]
I never said I wanted to die. I just don't need to keep living after I get what I want.

[It's almost a rhetorical question at this point, because y'know, vampires.
After a moment where Natsuno is wandering off into his own world, presumably--]
Hellooo? Koideee.
no subject
Me.
no subject
[It's a bit teasing, because that whole exchange with Shadow about sleeping in the rafters was kind of hilarious.
He is totally going to be unsurprised if Natsuno straight up falls out of the trees or the top of the library one of these days.]
What's the point of just stopping yourself when it's right there and can make you stronger?
no subject
I hate jinrou, and I don't make exceptions.

[ There's a long silence here which is probably telling on its own. ]
I used to. But I never intended to live long enough to have to figure it out again.
no subject
[That's even more thoughtful, and halfway to himself.
He's busy listening to Natsuno think, after all. Rather loudly, since silences can be loud. Anon doesn't bother to interrupt.]
Hmm. I guess we'll see how you do under the Witch, but I don't think the Foundation's real good at letting people do things they want to, even dying.
no subject
I never said I wanted to die. I just don't need to keep living after I get what I want.
